Octopus October

Since I started working here in March, every month of diving at Atmosphere has been awesome, not only because of the guests and staff but also because of the amazing critters. That being said, for me personally, October has been exceptional. We have had many unique sightings this month and many guests have finally seen a desired critter for the first time, including the elusive Harlequin Shrimp! We are still seeing frogfish at a lot of the dive sites, so I’m definitely happy, and one of my favorite Giant Frogfish reappeared and it seems to have changed color from purple …

padi sidemount at atmosphere resorts in dauin philippines

Have you seen any fellow divers recently, carrying one or two tanks by their side instead of on the back? If you have, they were sidemount divers. Atmosphere Resorts & Spa owner and architect matthew Holder muses about life in Dauin

So, it’s 5:30 am and I am sat on my verandah drinking a small frothy coffee after my (new fitness campaign) early morning swim. Spa treatments from the Sea

Recently at The Sanctuary Spa at Atmosphere, we have had an increase in bookings for our Algotherm facials, it was definitely our top selling treatment during the summer. Originally when I was conducting the research for the spa products that we would use in The Sanctuary Spa, many considerations came to mind. I am a lover of all things natural and it was important for me to source a product that had natural ingredients. I was elated when I found Algotherm – not only because of its natural properties but because its base ingredients are sea based; they are rich …

A mating pair of octopus on the Atmosphere Resorts house reef

July, August and September have been great months for diving here at the Atmosphere House Reef. We have had mating pairs of frogfish, pregnant ornate ghost pipefish and banded pipefish, a few pairs of leaf scorpion fish, and most recently, a few mating pairs of octopus, all on the house reef! We have known about a few octopus that reside in our house reef for a while, but our divers started seeing a pair together in the beginning of July, which usually means that they are preparing to mate since octopus are very territorial and not usually found together. In …
