Dear valued Guests,

We would like to take this opportunity to make your pre-trip planning a little easier by answering some of the questions you might have. Atmosphere Resorts & Spa has recently been given permission by the local government to open up rooms to guests again after a three-month-long closure due to Covid-19. Please be aware that during this partial opening, services and amenities will differ from what we normally offer. Contact us if you wish to know what is currently on offer at the resort.

The Philippines

The Philippines is a Southeast Asian country in the Western Pacific, which consists of more than 7000 islands with more than 120 languages and dialects. It is famous for its friendly people that always have a smile on their faces. Their great hospitality is known worldwide and being invited to somebody’s house or to a special occasion is quite common. Due to the history of many different ethnical groups settling in the Philippine islands and the colonization of the Spanish and Americans, the Philippines is very diverse and unique in their culture. The Philippines is the only Christian nation in Asia. More than 80 percent of the population is Roman Catholic.

Atmosphere Resorts & Spa is located in the middle part of the Philippines which is known as the Visayas, on an island called Negros. This area of the Philippines is politically very stable. Negros Island is the major sugar producer of the Philippines and Scuba diving in the region of Negros Oriental is recognized worldwide. The landscape of Negros is versatile with a number of waterfalls and caves, beaches and dive sites, mountains of which some are old volcanoes, lakes, rugged terrain for adventure and serene sites for more relaxed leisure that will turn your vacation into a feast for the senses. Explore and discover!

The climate of the Philippines is tropical with moderate to high temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Typically, the Manila-region has two distinct seasons: the dry winter season which runs from December to June and the slightly wetter summer season running from July to November. Atmosphere in Dumaguete is located much further south and therefore has less distinct seasons with less rain and a longer dry period. The dry season brings moderate seas and on-shore breezes and the wetter season has glass-flat seas and minimal offshore winds. The coolest month falls in January and the hottest, in May.

Rainfall can happen any month but is a little more common between July and October. The Philippines is known for its typhoons, but as Atmosphere is located in the south and protected by a mountain range, we are less affected by storms.

A 3mm wetsuit is the most common protection for divers. If you plan to do a lot of diving, we recommend bringing extra layers such as a hooded vest or thicker suit. This will ensure your comfort during repetitive dives, even in our lovely warm waters.

Currency and payments

The Philippine Peso is the official currency of the Philippines. In Atmosphere we also accept payment in USD, EUR, GBP and AUD next to the Philippine Peso. Atmosphere’s exchange rate will be taken during the time of payment. You can also pay with credit card. While we do add an additional service charge for payments with credit cards before arrival we will not charge any additional fee for Visa and MasterCard for any consumption during your stay. Payments with AMEX are still subject to a 5% service charge before and during your stay.
Please be aware that any remaining payments of pre-booked products/services/items have to be settled upon arrival in Atmosphere Resorts & Spa.

The closest reliable ATM’s for withdrawing cash is located in Dauin (5 km away) and then Dumaguete City (20 km away) from Atmosphere Resorts & Spa.

The most common means of public transportation is the jeepney. Everywhere in the Philippines, for the more short and local distances, the multicabs (small jeepneys) and tricycles (motorbike sidecars similar to tuk-tuks) are used by many Filipinos. Buses are also a common means of transportation for longer distances.

Regarding the transportation to/from Atmosphere Resorts & Spa:
We offer complimentary direct shuttles from and to Dumaguete Airport and Sibulan Pier upon arrival and departure connected to the regular flights and ferry arrivals and departures. Please be advised that we need your arrival details beforehand, at least 48 hours ahead, to be able to pick you up free of charge.

Please be informed that you might be asked for a porter’s fee if you are being assisted with your luggage at the pier or airport. The standard rate is about 30-50 PHP/piece.

If you are coming through Cebu City you can either choose to fly to Dumaguete with Cebu Pacific Air or hire a private car – which we are happy to arrange for you. The trip can take anywhere between 5 and 7 hours including the 30 min ferry ride to reach Negros Oriental where Atmosphere is situated. Private plane or helicopter transfers can also be arranged.

Additionally we offer a ‘Meet & Greet’ service in Manila for an extra fee to help with the transfers between terminals or to your hotel.

Visa and travel documents

Most nationalities with a few exceptions will receive a 1 month tourist visa upon arrival in the Philippines. Passports have to be valid for at least another 6 month prior departure. 1 or 2 month extensions can usually easily be processed in Dumaguete after your initial visa runs out.

Check in/check out

Check in time is 2 pm and check out time is 12 noon. An early check in or late check out can be requested but is subject to availability of the room. If we have no guest checking into that room, a 2 pm check-out is allowed free of charge. Anything later than 2 pm comes with a fee of 750 PHP per room per hour.

Internet and phone calls

All our rooms have an intercom service which allows you to contact other rooms in the resort, our front desk and security. If you wish to make a phone call and you don’t have your own phone, please ask our front desk for assistance. Wireless internet connection is available free of charge throughout the resort. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance if you have trouble connecting. Due to the general quality of the internet connections in the Philippines we ask for your kind consideration not to download large files, movies or streaming.

Although we have broadband, large downloads or streaming slow us down dramatically and so affect the speed of the internet for everyone.

Drinking water

It is recommended to drink bottled or filtered water here in the Philippines. Tap water is not recommended for drinking. Since Atmosphere is trying to reduce the environmental impact in any way possible, we provide complimentary unlimited filtered drinking water to all our guests and discourage the use of bottled water by giving each guest a stainless steel water bottle to use during their stay and to take home. We do not sell any water in plastic water bottles at Atmosphere. If you feel concerned drinking our filtered water, the bar has bottled mineral water in glass bottles for sale.

For the courtesy of all guests we do not allow pets inside the resort and we strongly discourage feeding of birds or other animals.

Food and beverages

Our extensive menus in our two restaurants Breeze and Ocean offer a wide range of choices including healthy living options and separate kids menus. We also have our own bakery and pastry shop. Our executive Chef will be more than happy to cater to any special dietary needs. If you have special requirements please contact us directly or your travel agent ahead of your arrival so we can do our best to help. for more information on menus, please go to the menu section on the website.

Atmosphere also has two bars with Happy Hour between 6 and 7pm and a wine tasting room for wine tastings. Find out more in the dining section of the website.

Power in the Philippines is at 220V but we also have 110V located in our camera room for charging flashlights and cameras. Fluctuations of currents are not unusual in the Philippines and if there are any brown outs (power failure), please allow a few minutes and our back-up generator will start. International type sockets are provided in each room. International adapters are also available at the front desk. Every room is fitted with a flashlight if needed.

Scuba diving and other activities

Scuba Diving

Please bring your certification cards and log book. All scuba divers are asked to sign a PADI standard Liability Release for scuba diving on arrival.
Please ensure that any diving medical concerns are addressed before you travel.
The majority of our tanks have the possibility to use an insert to make them suitable for either DIN or YOKE regulators and we provide complimentary Nitrox for Nitrox certified divers. If you need bigger tanks, we have 15 litre tanks available.

Diving Awareness

  • Atmosphere may have anything up to 5 dive boats going out per day, doing approximately 3 to 4 dives each depending on demand and number of divers in-house.
  • Dive groups reach a maximum of 4 with one dive guide unless there are special requests, however there may be more than one group on a boat at a time.
  • Private boats and dive guides, and photography guided dives are available at additional cost.
  • Local conditions require that all dive groups stay together at any time and a typical dive is between 45 – 60 minutes depending on NDL and air consumption. Maximum depth is 30 m (~100 ft) or less depending on your certification level.
  • A respect for the marine life is a must with good buoyancy control at all times.
  • For environmental protection we do not accept any touching, moving or manipulation of any underwater life.
  • No gloves are allowed whilst diving.

A full range of PADI courses are available at Atmosphere. Atmosphere is a 5* PADI Career Development Center that offers anything from Bubblemaker to Instructor level courses. Gratuities are not included and are not mandatory. If you feel that the Atmosphere Team helped make your trip enjoyable, may we suggest a gratuity of anything up to 10% of your package price and this will be greatly received. Envelopes are provided at the front desk where you may choose individual team members, departments or the whole staff with whom to share your tip. You may charge your gratuity to your credit card but we would prefer cash if possible.

Atmosphere Resorts & Spa is a family friendly resort. If you are bringing your little ones on vacation, we offer daily activities in our Kids’ Cove, as well as baby sitting services. We also have several sets of swimming pools which are specifically designed for different age groups with different depths, waterfalls, bubbles etc. and are located away from the main pool so that those guests who prefer more peace and quiet will not be disturbed. There are also yoga and spa services for kids, as well as scuba diving programs for children from the age of 8.

Medical Care

Dumaguete City has several good hospitals which provide very good medical care and there are also medical clinics in nearby Dauin and Zamboanguita.

It is recommended to bring Mosquito repellent since during times of more rain there are more mosquitos around. We are not in a malaria area but there are occasional reports of dengue and chikungunya. If you need any personal medication, we recommend you to bring a sufficient supply since there is never a guarantee that you can find the same brand here.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip!
We are looking forward to welcoming you soon!
