FAQ – Pre-arrival information

Dear valued Guests,

We would like to take this opportunity to make your pre trip planning a little easier by answering some of the questions you might have.

The Philippines

The Philippines is a Southeast Asian country in the Western Pacific, which consists of more than 7000 islands with more than 120 languages and dialects. It is famous for its friendly people that always have a smile on their face. Their great hospitality is known worldwide and being invited to somebody’s house or to a special occasion is quite common. Due to the history of many different ethnical groups settling in the Philippine islands and the colonization of the Spanish and Americans the Philippines are very diverse and unique in their culture. The Philippines is the only Christian nation in Asia. More than 80 percent of the population is Roman Catholic.
Atmosphere Resorts and Spa is located in the middle part of the Philippines which is known as the Visayas on an island called Negros. This area of the Philippines is politically very stable. Negros Island is the major sugar producer of the Philippines and Scuba diving in the region of Negros Oriental is recognized worldwide. The landscape of Negros is versatile with a number of waterfalls and caves, beaches and dive sites, mountains, lakes, rugged terrain for adventure and serene sites for more relaxed leisure that will turn your vacation into a feast for the senses. Explore and discover!

Weather

The Climate of the Philippines is tropical and maritime. It is characterized by relatively high temperature, high humidity and abundant rainfall. It is similar in many respects to the climate of the countries of Central America. Temperature, humidity, and rainfall, are the most important elements of the country’s weather and climate. Atmosphere is located south and protected by mountains. Therefore our monsoon is weaker, shorter and starts later than in Manila.

Temperature (approximate averages):

Dec-March Late March – May June – August Sept – Nov
Air 24-30C / 77-86F 25-28C / 77-82F 28-33C / 82-91F 27-32C / 81-90F
Water 25-28C / 77-82F 26-30C / 79-86F 28-31C / 82-88F 28-31C / 82-88F

A 3mm wetsuit is the most common protection for divers. If you plan to do a lot of diving, we recommend bringing extra layers such as a hooded vest or thicker suit. This will ensure your comfort during repetitive dives, even in our lovely warm waters.

Currency and payments

The Philippine Peso is the official currency of the Philippines. In Atmosphere we also accept payment in USD, EUR, GBP and AUD next to the Philippine Peso. Atmosphere’s exchange rate will be taken during the time of payment. Other payment options include credit cards and PayPal. While we do add an additional service charge for payments with credit cards before arrival we will not charge any additional fee for Visa and MasterCard for any consumptions during your stay. Payments with AMEX are still subject to a 5% service charge before and during your stay.
Please be aware that any remaining payments of pre-booked products/services/items have to be settled upon arrival in Atmosphere Resorts and Spa.
The closest ATMs for withdrawing cash is located in Dumaguete city which is about 20km (12,5 miles) from Atmosphere Resorts and Spa.

Transfers

The most common means of transportation is the jeepney. Everywhere in the Philippines, for the more short and local distances, the multicabs and tricycles are used by many Filipinos. But due to the rising middle class more and more Filipinos can afford motorcycles or even a car. Buses are also a common means of transportation for longer distances.
Regarding the transportation to/from Atmosphere Resorts and Spa:
We offer complimentary transportation from and to Dumaguete Airport and Sibulan Pier upon arrival and departure and we can assist in booking of domestic flights as well as Manila/Cebu City hotel bookings and land transportation.

Please be informed that you might be asked for a porter’s fee if you are being assisted with your luggage at the pier or airport. The standard rate is about 20-50 PHP/piece.

Upon departure there is a 150 PHP Airport Tax at the Dumaguete Airport which is only payable in cash. The airport in Manila has removed the airport tax but for travel via Cebu, make sure to inquire at Atmosphere before your departure as the tax may vary depending on where you are heading.

If you are coming through Cebu City you can either choose to fly to Dumaguete (although there’s only 1 direct flight per day – about 30 min) or hire a private car which we are happy to arrange for you. The trip can take anywhere between 5 and 7 hours including the 30 min ferry ride to Negros Oriental. Private plane or helicopter transfers can also be arranged.

Additionally we offer a ‘Meet & Greet’ service in Manila for an extra fee to help with the transfers between terminals.

Visa and Travel documents

Most countries with a few exceptions will receive a 1 month tourist visa upon arrival in the Philippines. Passports have to be valid for at least another 6 month prior departure. 1 or 2 month extensions can usually easily be processed in Dumaguete after your initial visa runs out.

Check in time is 2 pm and check out time is 12 noon. An early check in or late check out can be requested but is subject to availability of the room.

Internet and phone calls

All our rooms have an intercom service which allows you to contact other rooms in the resort, our front desk and security. When making local or international calls please ask our front desk, opening hours are 6am–10pm. Wireless internet connection is available free of charge throughout the resort. The internet code is listed in your room. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance if you have trouble connecting. Due to the general quality of the internet connections in the Philippines we ask for your kind consideration not to download large files, movies or streaming.

Although we have broadband, such things as these slow us down dramatically and so affect the speed of the internet for everyone.

It is recommended to drink bottled or filtered water here in the Philippines. Tap water is not recommended for drinking. Since Atmosphere is trying to reduce the environmental impact in any way possible we provide complimentary unlimited filtered drinking water to all our guests and discourage the use of plastic bottles.

Pets

For the courtesy of all guests we do not allow pets inside the resort.

Our extensive menus offer a wide range of choices including a healthy living menu and an interactive kids menu. We also have our own bakery and pastry shop. Electricity

Power in the Philippines is at 220V but we also have 110V located in our camera room for charging flashlights and cameras. Fluctuations of currents are not unusual in the Philippines and if there are any brown outs (power failure), please allow a few minutes and our back-up generator will start. International type sockets are provided in each room. International adapters are also available at the front desk.
Every room is fitted with a flashlight if needed.

  • Atmosphere may have anything up to 5 dive boats going out per day, doing approximately 3 to 4 dives each depending on demand.
  • Dive groups reach a maximum of 4 with one dive guide unless there are special re
quests, however there maybe more than one group on a boat at a time.
  • Private boats and dive guides, and photography guided dives are available at additional cost.
  • Local conditions require that all dive groups stay together at any time and a typical
dive is between 45 – 60 minutes depending on NDL and air consumption. Maximum

Gratuities

Gratuities are not included and are not mandatory. If you feel that the Atmosphere Team helped make your trip enjoyable, may we suggest a gratuity of anything up to 10% of your package price and this will be greatly received. Envelopes are provided at the front desk where you may choose individual team members, departments or the whole staff with whom to share your tip. You may charge your gratuity to your credit card but we would prefer cash if possible.

Medical Care

Dumaguete City has several good hospitals and 1 university hospital which provides very good medical care.
It is recommended to bring Mosquito repellent since during times of more rain there are more mosquitos around. We are not in a Malaria area but there are occasional reports of dengue and chikungunya. If you need any personal medication we recommend you to bring a sufficient supply since there is never a guarantee that you can find the same brand here.

Children

Atmosphere Resorts and Spa is a family friendly resort. If you are bringing your little ones on your vacation we offer daily activities in our Kids’ Cove, as well as baby sitting services. We also have a 2nd set of swimming pools which are especially designed for different age groups with different depth, waterfalls, bubbles etc. and are located away from the main pool so that those guests who prefer more peace and quiet will not be disturbed.
