PADI Course Director, Atmosphere Resorts, Philippines

We are delighted to congratulate Tracy Chan who passed her CDTC examination in Malaysia last week. Tracy has been with Atmosphere for two years as the Regional Sales Manager for China and Hong Kong. She is also our Chinese-speaking Dive Instructor. Over the past year, Tracy has worked very hard towards reaching the prestigious rating of Course Director and we are very excited that Instructor Development Philippines now has 4 Course Directors in-house. We have two big IDC’s ahead of us this fall, so we’ll keep Tracy busy!

Although frogfish are relatively well known critters to divers in the Indo-Pacific, photographers, and muck divers, that has not always been the case. Stories of frogfish and their accompanying drawings and sketches have existed for hundreds of years, with encounters spanning the globe. The first ever documented frogfish encounter comes from Brazil. At some point before 1630, a drawing was given to the director of the Dutch West India Company. A woodcut was made from this drawing, and that woodcut was published in 1633. The first documented frogfish from the Indo-Pacific was in 1696. A ship captain in Western Australia …

The newest addition to the Atmosphere Team is Oliver “Oli” Watkins. Who has taken the helm as Dive Centre Manager in August. Oli is used to working with a big team, after many years of teaching diving, captaining boats, running dive centers and guiding all over the world. Most recently in the Cayman Islands. Originally British but with fluent German and conversational French, he fits Atmosphere like a glove! Hoping to run the dive centre like a well-oiled machine. Oli occasionally has time to go diving though and loves seeing things he hasn’t see before – which shouldn’t be too difficult …
