Would you like to know a secret? We believe the best way to start the new year is by creating new memories with adventures in the Philippines. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, explorer, or simply love trying new things, there’s an excursion for everyone. That is why we have put together our 5 most popular excursions near Dumaguete for you!

To make your adventure even more enjoyable, we provide everything for you during your excursions with us at Atmosphere Resorts & Spa. This allows you to leave stress behind and focus on the present moment.

1. Day trip to Apo Island – the most popular excursion to see turtles and stunning coral reefs

Do you want to see turtles in the Philippines? Then Apo Island is the place for you. Beautiful coral reefs are surrounded by a large population of turtles and colourful reef fish. It is an unforgettable trip and a must for divers, non-divers and snorkelers. The green and hawksbill turtles are all around the island, but if you prefer really shallow water, there is a shallow turtle sanctuary near the beach where you can specifically watch the turtles graze on the seagrass.

If you want to swim with turtles in turquoise blue water and experience the stunning limestone rock surroundings – Apo Island should be your number 1 choice! It takes only 40 min with a safe banka boat and we conduct trips several times per week.

2. Our popular day tour to the whale sharks in Oslob in the Philippines

Experience the thrill of swimming with whale sharks in Oslob on Cebu Island. It only takes 1.5 hours from Atmosphere by van and boat. These gentle giants hang out in a shallow bay all year round. Just jump on a small boat from the beach to see them up close. If you want, you can even jump in and snorkel or swim with the whale sharks. I mean, who doesn’t want to say they have been swimming with the biggest fish on this planet?

Did you know that whale sharks in fact can be up to 12 m long and are filter feeders – therefore they only eat plankton and tiny shrimp. Their tiny teeth don’t actually have a function anymore.

3. Explore the Valencia Hot Springs and Pulang Bato Waterfall

While visiting Valencia, why not combine it with an adventure to the Hot Springs and the Pulang Bato waterfall? The Hot Springs are naturally hot and slightly sulphurous. The water comes directly from the mountain into manmade hot pools and the water is famous for its medicinal properties.

The Pulang Bato Waterfall is only a few metres away from the Hot Springs and is also called the “Red Rock Waterfalls”. It is named after the red rocks surrounding it. The waterfall is surrounded by beautiful scenery and it is the perfect place to cool off after a visit to the slightly warmer Hot springs.

4. Our popular tour to Casaroro Waterfall in Valencia

Hike through stunning landscapes in Negros Oriental and allow yourself to unwind and appreciate the beauty of the world around you whilst you are visiting the Philippines. Casaroro Waterfall is a 40-meter tall single column of water drops into a swimming basin of cold water that is also surrounded by steep rock walls. It is a stunning view and the perfect excursion for those looking for a bit of adventure.

Be aware that there are 300+ steps to get down to the falls. So are you up for the challenge? Luckily, you can freshen up with a brisk swim in the cool mountain water before you start your climb back up again.

5. A trip to the beautiful twin lakes combined with bird-watching in the Philippines

One of the greatest benefits of excursions is the chance to connect with nature. Twin Lakes (or Lakes Balinsasayao in the local language) are two deep freshwater lakes located in the northern parts of Negros Oriental. The lakes are 330 meters above sea level, adjoined by a narrow mountain ridge. Go for a hike to a waterfall, maybe kayak around the lake or enjoy the beautiful scenery from the viewing tower.

The area is also well known for its bird life. The bird life in Negros Oriental is astounding. It is up to 315 bird species recorded just in this area. We are fortunate to have a mix of indigenous and migratory species all year round here in Negros Oriental. This is the perfect adventure for you if you want to experience nature in the Philippines and the bird life in the Dumaguete area!
