Typhoon Haiyan - Thank you for helping us help!

First we would like to say that Atmosphere had a lucky escape from Typhoon Haiyan and so did most of the island. We had dark skies, rain and a strong breeze resulting in some cancelled flights and boat dives, but no damage and we are very grateful that our guests were so understanding of the situation. Luckily for us, it did not get worse than this outside Atmosphere… The storm that spared us did however leave immense damage on other islands. We asked ourselves how we could help and we decided to use some of our Gives Forward funds for …

Here she is! New Resort Manager Rae with fellow colleagues Adam and Ulrika

…and it is not food! Most of you know Rae Collins as the Spa Manager, Yoga Teacher or the former Dive Centre Manager. Having assumed a variety of roles as a manager at Atmosphere, there was almost only one challenge left for Rae… Having always ‘held fort’ for Matt and Gabrielle Holder whilst they were on their annual holidays, it was only natural to ask Rae to take over the daily running of the resort, when the Holders decided to let go of the day to day matters, using that time instead to drive Atmosphere forward. Atmosphere's new coral stone pool deck

Time flies and after nearly five years of being open, we realized that Atmosphere’s slightly weathered and dated wooden pool decking area needed a makeover. Divemaster Richard, between his favorite frogfish and the scarier Finding Nemo version

It was December 2010 when, like a new lone gunman, Richard appeared in the Atmosphere Dive Center having heard that they were in need of a freelance Divemaster that day. For those of you who have dived here, we could say that the rest is history. King Richard, as he is known amongst our Atmosphere guests, is a stalwart within the dive team and well known on the Dauin coast as one of the best spotters of critters and creatures within our oceans. He loves the challenge of finding smaller, rarer, more obscure creatures and after speaking with him it …

The mothers at the Atmosphere Soup Kitchen showing off their Piggy Bank

On a recent visit to the Atmosphere Soup Kitchen (ASK) with resort guests Emma and Lexie from California, we once again had the opportunity to admire the ingenuity of the people living around the dump site in Candau-ay. The Atmosphere Soup Kitchen is a part of our Gives Forward program. It opened in June 2011 and we feed 85 kids five days a week. Why? The main objective is to keep these kids going to school. They live in an impoverished area near the Dumaguete dump site where kids would otherwise spend their time looking for things to sell on …
